Government Spending & the Cost of Living: Why Budget Choices Matter

At the Center for Budgetary Governance Advocacy (CBGA), we recognize a growing concern among citizens: “Why is the cost of living rising while government budgets keep growing?”

The truth is, government spending has a direct impact on the cost of living, especially when not aligned with public needs or managed transparently.

When Spending Doesn’t Serve the People:

🔺 Poorly targeted subsidies fail to reach low-income households
🔺 Spending on non-essential projects crowds out investment in basic services like food, housing, and transportation
🔺 Inflationary financing (e.g., excessive borrowing or printing money) pushes prices higher
🔺 Lack of accountability allows waste and corruption, reducing real value for citizens

What Responsible Spending Looks Like:

✔️ Prioritizing essential public services (health, education, water, transport)
✔️ Supporting price stabilization through smart subsidies and safety nets
✔️ Investing in job creation and local economies
✔️ Ensuring fiscal transparency so the public knows how money is spent

When government budgets reflect the real cost of living and prioritize the most vulnerable, they become tools for economic justice—not just financial statements.

At CBGA, we continue to advocate for pro-people budgeting that eases economic pressures, reduces inequality, and improves the quality of life for all.

Let’s make public finance work for the people.
